Introduction

Agriculture is one of the most important sectors of many countries' economies. Energy is critical for economic growth and is a necessary component for agricultural productivity, competitiveness, and sustainability. Population growth, urbanization and economic development increase the demand for food and energy.

Agriculture is an energy conversion process that converts solar energy into food energy for humans and animal feed via photosynthesis. Agriculture makes extensive use of human, animal, and mechanical energy in its production. Modern agriculture necessitates the use of energy at all stages of production, including direct energy use in agricultural machinery, water management, irrigation, planting, drying, storage, and harvesting. Furthermore, many indirect energy inputs are used in agriculture, such as mineral fertilizers and chemical pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides.

Agricultural energy demand is currently primarily dependent on energy supplied by fossil fuels. The environmental impacts and energy security issues caused by agricultural energy use can be reduced by encouraging the efficient use of energy and renewable sources such as solar, wind, biomass, tidal, geothermal, small-scale hydropower, biofuels, and wave-generated energy. It is also critical in agricultural activities to use various technologies and resources to increase energy efficiency in order to improve financial situation, reduce energy consumption, and reduce environmental impacts.

Solving the agricultural sector's energy problem is critical to aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Combining energy efficiency with increased use of renewable energy will reduce agriculture's reliance on fossil fuels, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and help to solve the food security problem.
